The Club
Fun, Affordable and Inclusive
Two Rivers is a fun, affordable and an inclusive golf club.
We offer a wide range of social, recreational and entertainment opportunities for all ages.
You are welcome to play here and enjoy your time with your friends and family.
The course is beautiful and has been a joy to play since it was built in 1932.
Brief History:
In the fall of 1888, under the leadership of Charlie Swan, plans were to start a club “for social, charitable and benevolent purposes, to provide a place where members may meet for recreation, and to entertain, and to render mutual benefit and assistance to its members…” And thus, The Sioux City Boat Club was formed.
Folklore says golf was originally played here as early as 1892 but there is little record of it. The official record shows a course established in 1909 and later the Sioux City Boat Club decided to build a first-class golf course in 1929.
Club Professional Bill Adams said at the time, “We must build a golf course and build it to the best of our ability and finances.”
With that mission, The Elmwood golf course was completed by designer Leonard Macomber and opened in the spring of 1932.
The course was (and still is) well known for being a club with the entire family in mind, its top-rated greens, and the host to first class tournaments including the 86 year old Interstate Tournament, The Iowa Open in ’41, The Sioux City PGA Open in ’50 & ’51, The Hogan Tour in ’90 & ’91 and the 26 year old Siouxland Senior Open.
The Club and Course thrived thru the late 1980’s when negotiations began with a developer to create the Dakota Dunes Country Club and a master planned community. Construction of the Club was completed in 1991 and opened as a private club. Elmwood GC was renamed Two Rivers Golf Club and was re-opened as a public facility.
Two Rivers soon became one of the favorite courses to play in Siouxland.
In January of 2020, a new chapter began when the course was purchased by Dakota Dunes Land Holdings, LLC with a long term vision and commitment to golf . The future is bright and the change of ownership has been an exciting experience.
Through 132 years, and though we are no longer a private club, our object “social, charitable purposes, to provide a place where people may meet for recreation, and to entertain….” remains the same.
